Tribute, Why We Love Gary V.
July 4, 2009
Alright I know this photo is REALLY huge! But Gary Vaynerchuk is really BIG in the media right now, so it’s fitting.
So who is this Gary V and why do we love him? Well if you’re reading this blog post, then go back to the front page of my website and check out his video. You’ll see what I mean.
Gary V. dares to be real. How can you not love a guy who makes a video while sitting in his less than perfect office and lets his phone ring while he’s taping? We love that! He is daring to blow away all of the schmaltzy, picture-perfect, over-the-top business types who make you think that if you don’t look and act like everyone else, you’ll never make it in this world.
Well Gary V. does not act like everyone else and that’s exactly what we love about him. (Sigh of relief.) Enough already! Maybe we can finally stop pretending about who we are.
Gary V. is the real deal – bold, audacious and loud! Remember how many times we were told in Catholic school to be quiet? Well he is literally defying those nuns and many other rules as well.
How can you not love that? Listen, it’s not easy to be yourself in this world, especially the business world. I literally had someone tell me, not so long ago even, that if I didn’t wear navy blue pumps and a white blouse with 3/4 length sleeves, that I would never make it as a presenter. I’m not kidding, she really told me that!
Well folks, I don’t have any navy blue pumps. I have a pair of bright turquoise ones that are really cute. I also don’t own even one white blouse - neither short or long sleeved. Am I a failure? I don’t think so. I’m darned adorable when I tell stories in my colorful caftans and barefeet. Just kidding, I don’t have any caftans.
But when I present in front of people they get the real me, the real deal, not the schmaltzy made up version, well maybe just a little.

He Dares To Be Real
But you get the point. Gary V. dares to be real. I try to be real. Dare to be real yourself, everyday. It’s the wave of the future if you ask me.
Guru’s like Tony Robbins are relics of the past. In the future, success is only going to be possible if you have mussed up hair or something. To make it in my book, you have to give up the schmaltz!
Yay Gary V! Keep being loud, funny and real. And by the way, thanks for following me on Twitter. Like minded souls should stick together on this trail. It’s a rough world out there!

Got something to say?
Annie, you kick ass! Gary V. certainly is a huge breath of fresh air in a media still too often driven by a plastic mentality of old worn out rules and stale cliche’s. There is a new wave of success principles ready to wash the old crap away and it’s being energized by…(gulp)…being REAL. Thanks for the post!
