The Miracle of the Creative Retreat Process

January 27, 2010

sun rise and planet illustration with reflectionsToday  I officially finished my 42 day Creative Retreat and it’s been absolutely fantastic - truly miraculous.  I accomplished what I set out to do!

When I started I had only a tiny idea of what I was doing.  I wanted to crack the code on why I couldn’t get bigger projects, like writing a book, off the ground. I also wanted to know how you can access inspiration whenever and where ever you need it.  I decided to set aside some time and figure this out.

Initially I thought I might only spend 4-8 days over the holidays to do this, but very soon the retreat process took on a life of it’s own.

It’s a common belief that we have to wait on the muses to inspire us,  but  that’s not very useful when you want to get things done, because the muses don’t tend to ever show up when you need them.

I don’t know about you but there have been times when I have sat down to do a project and nothing comes.  All that information that is somewhere inside of me has decided to go off to hide in a cave.

It is damned annoying!you-have-annoyed-monkey

I wondered to myself - is this just a cruel trick of the muses or is there something that we can actually do about it?  I had an inkling that there was a way to access it all the time, I just wasn’t sure how.

During the retreat I realized that the realm of inspiration is always there.  It doesn’t actually come and go at all.  So the question is - how can we access it when we most need to?

Well here’s the good news - I cracked the code! I’ve done what I set out to do.  I not only figured out what stops us from doing bigger projects, but I also figured out what to do about it.

Then I used those findings on myself and believe it or not I created an almost complete body of work, in only 42 days!  How’s that for amazing?

I also have a wonderful new colleague and collaborator, a  well-known consultant in Europe, who is now doing the process as well.  Together we will be creating the process and sharing it with others.

42Come join us for my brand new radio show this Friday at 11 AMRadio 42 - the Meaning of Life, the Universe & Everything.  We will be discussing the creative retreat process and the amazing things that you can create in only 42 days.

Please join us Friday at 11 AM, EST. You can also download the show later if you can’t be there live.  You’re also welcome to share your ideas and suggestions for the show.  I am always happy to have you as part of the contribution.

Yours in the creativity and inspiration that changes the world,

Annie

Launching Radio 42 - The Meaning of Life, The Universe & Everything

January 20, 2010

42-hitchhikersI am so excited.  I am getting ready to launch my brand new radio show called, Radio 42 - the Meaning of Life, the Universe & Everything. Don’t you just love that title!

I know that it’s not completely original but several things coincided to bring this name to the foreground.  As my blog readers know, I have been on Creative Retreat for 42 days (I’m in day 32) and it has been amazing.

People have been asking me - WHY 42?

It’s a mystical number that I chose for several reasons (which I’ll talk about in my upcoming book), but what I didn’t know was of it’s association to the book, “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.”  I never read that book and had never heard that story about how a computer spit out the answer to the question, “What is the meaning of life?”meaning-of-life-chart-1

And it’s answer was 42!

Only recently did someone tell me this story and give me the title for the radio show.  Thanks to my fabulous colleague and his brilliance, Radio 42 was born and will be launched next week on Friday at 11 am.  Please tune in.

What will Radio 42 be about? Well that’s the cool thing - it will be about everything - the meaning of life, the universe, everything!  But in specific it will creative, everyday, practical tools to help you change from the inside out. I have take my mystical understandings of the world and translate them into easy to use tools.

42-hatWe all need the ability to go away everyday. Mystics always went to mountaintops or into the desert to get a new perspective on life but I realized that we need ways to change everyday and so am bringing forth the tips, tools, secrets and stories from the masters.  Sound fun?  It’s gonna be, guaranteed!

For my first show, I will have a very special guest with me so so please do tune in for the fun, the frolic and a tour of the cosmos.  It’s on Blog Talk Radio, Friday at 11 am.

Yours in sharing the tips, tools and secrets of the masters,

Annie

“Cut The Crap” Goes Live on the Radio

November 18, 2009

thomasToday I had a wonderful virtual coffee with my new friend and colleague Thomas Magnum on his Virtual Coffee radio show.  Boy was that fun!

Thomas is an inspiring and educated speaker and trainer who has a real knack for putting people at ease and creating connections.  He was fascinated by the many levels of depth that storytelling provides for creating impact in your life, your message and business.

We had a great virtual coffee together, Thomas in sunny California and me in Philly-delphia.  We both relate in the area of knowing that relationships are a most important factor in all transactions of life.

If you’d like to enjoy the show as I did, listen below and I hope you will get to know Thomas.  He has certainly has a lot to share.

Tips From The Top: Storytelling Coach, Doug Lipman

October 19, 2009

dougLet me introduce my friend and storytelling mentor, Doug Lipman.  I love Doug.  He is one of the kindest and most generous people that I know.  The first time I met him, I flew all the way to California to do a workshop with him.

I arrived late, frantic from the L.A traffic.  I walked into the room and he stood up and with his arms outstretched said, “Look who you turned out to be,” as if I were the most special person in the world.  That is how Doug treats everyone and is what makes him stand out as a storytelling coach.  He has helped more storytellers develop their gifts than anyone I know.  Doug will be featured on my Radio Show this week and I wanted to share a bit of his story with you.

Doug told his first story to a room filled with emotionally disturbed adolescent boys. They began with their arms folded and sneers on their faces. A few seconds into the story, they fell into a listening trance.  That moment changed Doug’s life. In a way, he has been pursuing that form of connection through storytelling, ever since.

Over the last 35 years, he has, among other things:

  • Performed for all ages, on three continents
  • Authored 4 books
  • Created innovative forms of mulit-media storytelling instruction, like the Storytelling Workshop in a Box and the Image Riding Toolkit
  • Published 100 issues of his email newsletter, “eTips from the     Storytelling Coach”
  • Taught storytelling to scores of organizations, such as:
    The Jet Propulsion Lab (NASA)
    The World Bank
    The Center for Creative Leadership
    MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving)
  • Coached many professional storytellers - to improve their storytelling and their marketing

At the end of that workshop as we did a closing circle, Doug grabbed my shoulders and said, “If you try to get out of my life, I’ll kill you.”  I laughed the entire way home.  He knew that I needed exactly that fierce kind of brotherly love.  And we’ve been bonded ever since.

I am delighted that Doug will be with us on the show, sharing his wisdom and expertise from many years as a leader in the Storytelling field.  I hope you’ll join us.

Corey’s Story Journey: The Radio Show

September 13, 2009

From Corey: Yesterday, I was interviewed on Annie Hart’s radio show  and wow – did we fly.  Annie and I discussed the creative process we have undergone, highlighting the emotional roller coaster of creation, dealing with the uncomfortable aspects, using creative thinking to overcome obstacles, remaining flexible but committed and more.

Immediate feedback we received was that listeners enjoyed our energy and my business expertise combined with listener Erin Cohen’s perfect phrasing of “Annie’s ability to comfortably encourage you to free your soul.” Annie has an uncanny ability to do so!  Next time we’ll need 60 minutes for sure!

Brian also shared, “It was excellent!  I appreciate your transparency and authenticity.  You and Annie have a special bond, and it’s awesome to hear that.”

From Annie: It was a wonderful show!  Corey spoke loud and clear about the challenges of the creative process when you’re trying to open up the stories that are raw and real inside of you.  I love working with Corey Blake and I’m very much looking forward to his story coming out fully and shining in the world.

Stay tuned.  I’m going to have him back on the show again in the future.

Create Your Own Raw & Real Story Journey

September 9, 2009

blog-talkHoly Cow.  Creation is an emotional ride.  Today I’m feeling the effects of HARD work after a call with Annie Hart. She is a dynamo.

This Friday we’ll discuss the creative process on her Radio Show and I’m excited to be able to discuss it not only from the outside in, but from the inside out.

The majority of my work is in pulling story out of people, but now I have this firsthand experience of being the one the story is pulled from and it is so freakin eye opening.  I’m excited to dive into a discussion that can inspire others to take the ride!
